The Owners’ Story

Margita Hollenová was born in Orava. "At home, every penny was turned over, everything was repaired, and nothing was thrown away. These values run in my veins—whether I’m thinking about my home or our company, whether I have a lot or little money." Many years after she left her childhood home, fate tested her values by leading her to a dilapidated yet precious historical building in Stupava.

It was a spring day in 2017. "We were looking for suitable premises for restoring historical vehicles near the center of Stupava." Under blooming chestnut trees, a neglected farm building crouched, its roof full of holes, with tree branches growing through it. When it rained, water poured in, soaking everything, and the walls seemed to hold together by a miracle. Inside, there was a storage space full of clutter.

"We realized we had discovered something we didn’t need. However, I was enchanted by the immense space and beautiful arches. I feel like when I first entered this building, the spirit of the place embraced me and never let go."

Margita brought her husband, Heinrich, to see the precious building that seemed destined for ruin. He didn’t doubt for a moment that saving this historical gem would be their shared challenge and a heartfelt mission.

The couple wanted to learn as much as possible about the building. They discovered that it likely dated back to the 17th century when it served as stables and was part of a large manor belonging to the Pálffy family. The fascinating arches were probably added in the 18th century. During socialism, the building served as a machine and tractor station and deteriorated further over the years, crying out for rescue.

The Hollen family purchased the building in 2019. Over the next four years of renovation, they faced numerous challenges and difficult situations. It was an emotional rollercoaster—from euphoria and joy to moments of utter exhaustion.

Today, they have fulfilled their mission to save this historical building with its magnificent arches for future generations. The Arkady Hof, Hotel & Restaurant ****, has been renovated into a uniquely designed hotel and restaurant, ready for family celebrations, friendly gatherings, conferences, and weddings.
